That is a solid default here. Trim it only on routes and hours you already know well.
RSW asks you to be in the security line two hours before a domestic departure and three before an international one, and it means the line, not the curb. The layout is why: one terminal, three concourses (B, C and D), and a separate checkpoint for each with no airside connection between them, so your gate decides your line and a busy one cannot be traded for a quiet one.
The terminal expansion that will fix this (a single sixteen-lane checkpoint and a new Concourse E) is under way and has already moved the Concourse C checkpoint into a temporary five-lane home.
Three checkpoints, one per concourse, each open until about thirty minutes before that concourse's last departure. PreCheck and CLEAR run here. Because the concourses do not connect past screening, check your gate before you pick a line; the temporary Concourse C checkpoint (since February 2026) is the one most likely to feel the construction. Winter is the real peak at this airport, so a January morning earns more than the standard figure.
The plan allows 25 minutes for a standard lane on a busy but normal morning. With TSA PreCheck, that drops to 15 minutes. A checked bag lengthens the one before it.
The airport is off I-75 southeast of Fort Myers, twenty minutes from downtown and forty or more from Naples, with Terminal Access Road as the one way in. There is no rail; LeeTran's bus reaches the terminal but is a city route.
The garage is directly across from the terminal and a walk in, and the Long-term lot is a shuttle that picks up at your car. The Rental Car Service Center is on the ground level of that same garage, so returning a car is a walk across to the terminal.

Earlier than for a domestic one. International boarding starts 45 minutes before departure instead of 30, which pulls every step earlier. Use the airline desk for bags: documents get checked and counters often close an hour out. That also covers lap infants, unaccompanied minors, and oversized bags. If your boarding pass names a boarding time, match that.
Work backward from departure: boarding, time at the gate, the walk, security, bag drop, parking, then the drive (20 minutes in the default plan). Replace the drive with your own route. The leave-by moment is the first travel row, "Drive to RSW" by default.
