ATL is the busiest airport in the world, and it behaves like it: Monday mornings, Sunday evenings, and holiday weeks can double a normal checkpoint line. Concourse T hangs off the domestic terminal and everything else is a Plane Train ride away, so the gate letter tells you how much airport is still ahead of you.
The main domestic checkpoint funnels an enormous volume of passengers, and once you're through, the concourses are connected by the Plane Train. Budget the ride to a far concourse on top of the wait. Concourse F has its own checkpoint at the international terminal, so those departures never join the main domestic line.
The plan allows 30 minutes for a standard lane on a busy but normal morning. With TSA PreCheck, that drops to 15 minutes. A checked bag lengthens the one before it.
MARTA's Red and Gold lines run straight into the domestic terminal, which sidesteps Atlanta traffic entirely. If you're flying international, note that the international terminal is on the opposite side of the airfield with its own road access and parking. The MARTA station sits between the domestic terminal's north and south halves, so the train lands you at check-in rather than at a curb.
