That is a solid default here. Trim it only on routes and hours you already know well.
Indianapolis quotes the standard two hours domestic and three international. It is one terminal, two checkpoints (A and B) and two concourses, and the useful fact is that the concourses connect past security, so either checkpoint reaches any gate: pick the shorter line, then walk. PreCheck is routed to Checkpoint A, and both checkpoints open around 3:30 AM for the first bank.
Two checkpoints off the Civic Plaza and a Concourse Connector behind them, so a long line at A is a short walk from B and the choice costs you nothing at the gate. PreCheck passengers go to A; CLEAR runs at both from 4 AM to 7 PM. The concourses are long and the airport is proud of its moving walkways, which is the tell that the far gates are a real walk.
The plan allows 20 minutes for a standard lane on a busy but normal morning. With TSA PreCheck, that drops to 10 minutes. A checked bag lengthens the one before it.
The airport is off I-70 at exit 68, five minutes west of I-465, so the drive is short from downtown and predictable from most of the metro. There is no rail; IndyGo's bus serves the terminal but is a city route.
The Terminal Garage connects to the terminal by an enclosed pedestrian bridge and is a walk in; Park & Walk is a longer walk and the Economy Lot is a shuttle every five to seven minutes. Rental counters are in the Ground Transportation Center on the garage's first floor, so the return is a walk.

Earlier than for a domestic one. International boarding starts 45 minutes before departure instead of 30, which pulls every step earlier. Use the airline desk for bags: documents get checked and counters often close an hour out. That also covers lap infants, unaccompanied minors, and oversized bags. If your boarding pass names a boarding time, match that.
