Travel time to the Greek

The 25-minute drive is a typical run from downtown LA without show traffic (the optimistic number). In the app, set the Greek as the destination and Apple Maps fills in the time from where you’re leaving.

Then add for show night: every car aiming at the same entrance (real drive to the Greek). Change the row and every step before it moves.

What the time on the ticket means

The time on the ticket is when the first act is due on, and at most shows here the gates opened ninety minutes earlier. Seating here is reserved, so nobody is racing for a spot; the deadline really is the show. Aim to be in your seat ten minutes before the first act, and budget the walk to your row: it is the part people misjudge, not the drive.

The pit is the exception. At most shows here it is sold standing rather than seated, and with a pit ticket it is the line before doors that decides where in it you end up.

Getting to the Greek

The Greek sits inside Griffith Park at 2700 North Vermont, about eight miles from downtown LA off the 5 at Los Feliz Boulevard, and the last mile up Vermont is single file with everyone else on show night. The venue’s own answer is the off-site shuttle: park at the Pony Ride Train lot at Crystal Springs Drive and Los Feliz, and the bus runs you to the front of the theatre and back, with the parking and the ride on one pass.

Public transport works too. The LADOT DASH Observatory/Los Feliz bus goes right to the venue for fifty cents and connects to the Metro B Line at Vermont/Sunset; buses out of the park leave ten minutes after the show ends, and the last B Line train from Vermont/Sunset is at 11:55pm. Rideshare drops and picks up in Lot C at Vermont and Commonwealth.

The gate, the bag, and the stairs

Doors are ninety minutes before the show at nearly every event here. Screening is a bag check, and the limit is the size: nothing over 12 by 6 by 12 inches, or it goes to Guest Services for the night. No outside food or drink, one factory-sealed plastic water bottle per person, and an empty reusable plastic bottle is fine as long as you tip out whatever is in it at the gate.

No metal bottles, no umbrellas, no coolers, and no re-entry once you are in. The theatre is small by amphitheatre standards at about 5,900 seats, but the terraces climb steeply from the stage and the walk to a high row takes longer than the seat map suggests.

How early should I get to the Greek?

The plan's floor is the gate half an hour before the show: screening, the walk to your section, and a few minutes in the seat. Your seat is reserved, so nothing is lost by not being there when the gates open ninety minutes out. The walk from the lot depends on which lot you got.

What time should I leave for an 8:00 PM show at the Greek?

How does parking work at the Greek?

Parking is limited and most of the on-site lots are stacked, so you leave when the cars around you do. Passes are sold in advance through the venue’s parking partner and often sell out; anything left is sold on site at the day-of rate, and the venue may assign you a different lot from the one you picked. Lot C does not open until 7pm, and the venue will park you elsewhere if you arrive before then. The official Greek Theatre site has the current lots.

How long is the walk from the parking lot at the Greek?

About five minutes from the general lots beside the theatre. From Lot C at Vermont and Commonwealth it is about fifteen minutes uphill, and from a Metro bus stop down on Vermont it is closer to a mile. The plan's default for Lot C down on Vermont is 15 minutes, and it is editable.
