The 2019 terminal is compact and easy to move through; the crowd surges follow the city's calendar. The Sunday after a festival weekend is the line to respect. Three concourses branch from a single point past security, so the gate letter changes the walk without changing the wait.
A consolidated checkpoint serves the whole terminal, which keeps it predictable outside of event exoduses (Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, big games). It sits on Level 2, a floor below the departures hall, so the only escalator ride comes before the checkpoint rather than after it.
The plan allows 20 minutes for a standard lane on a busy but normal morning. With TSA PreCheck, that drops to 10 minutes. A checked bag lengthens the one before it.
It's a flat 20–30 minute run from the French Quarter or the Garden District on I-10, hotel checkout and the rideshare queue included. On festival Sundays, everyone does that math at the same time. RTA's Airport Express 202 runs downtown, and the rental center sits across the field by the old terminal rather than beside the new one.
