The 15-minute drive is a typical run from Dallas without traffic. In the app, set Dallas Love Field as the destination and Apple Maps fills in the time from where you’re leaving.

A maps app covers the drive to DAL. Bag drop, security, and the walk to your gate usually take longer, and they are the steps people misjudge.

Checking a bag or flying at a peak hour puts you toward the early end of the range.
Love Field asks for ninety minutes, and the layout earns it: one terminal, one checkpoint, and a single concourse of twenty gates, almost all of them Southwest. It is close to the middle of the city, so the drive is short and the risk is the roadworks around Mockingbird Lane rather than distance. The checkpoint opens at 4:00 AM, which matters for the first departure bank.
There is one checkpoint for the whole airport, so everyone on the morning bank is in the same line; PreCheck and CLEAR both run in it. Past the checkpoint the concourse is a straight walk with the gates on either side, and the far end is a few minutes at most, which is why the walk step here is the smallest on the site.
The plan allows 20 minutes for a standard lane on a busy but normal morning. With TSA PreCheck, that drops to 10 minutes. A checked bag lengthens the one before it.
Herb Kelleher Way brings you in from Mockingbird Lane, with garages A and B on the lower roadway and Garage C to the right at Aviation Place; all three are a four-to-eight-minute walk to the ticketing hall over skybridges, and Garage C's skybridge skips the ticketing wing if you have no bag to check. DART's Love Link bus (Route 5) shuttles between the terminal and Inwood/Love Field station on the Green and Orange lines, free in the airport direction. The rental companies keep counters in the hallway to baggage claim and run shuttles to their lots, so the return is a shuttle.

Earlier than for a domestic one. International boarding starts 45 minutes before departure instead of 30, which pulls every step earlier. Use the airline desk for bags: documents get checked and counters often close an hour out. That also covers lap infants, unaccompanied minors, and oversized bags. If your boarding pass names a boarding time, match that.
Work backward from departure: boarding, time at the gate, the walk, security, bag drop, parking, then the drive (15 minutes in the default plan). Replace the drive with your own route. The leave-by moment is the first travel row, "Drive to DAL" by default.
