The airlines at MCI ask for check-in two hours before a domestic departure and three before international, and the airport adds two figures of its own: twenty to twenty-five minutes more if you park in the Economy Lot and wait for the blue bus, twenty-five to thirty if you park off-airport. The terminal that opened in 2023 replaced the old three-horseshoe layout with one building and one checkpoint, so the plan has no terminal choice in it any more, just the drive north on I-29.
One central checkpoint serves both concourses, A and B, so the whole morning bank shares it and the line is longest before the first departures. PreCheck runs in it and CLEAR is available, with an enrollment desk on the departures level. Past screening the concourses split left and right and the far gates on B are a longer walk than the building's compactness suggests.
The plan allows 25 minutes for a standard lane on a busy but normal morning. With TSA PreCheck, that drops to 15 minutes. A checked bag lengthens the one before it.
The airport is well north of the city off I-29, so the drive from downtown is twenty-five minutes on a clear day and more from Johnson County. There is no rail; RideKC's 229 bus reaches the terminal but is a city route.
The garage sits directly across from the terminal, a walk in; the Economy Lot is a blue bus every fifteen to twenty minutes. Rental cars are a consolidated facility off the terminal loop, reached by the gray bus from the commercial curb every five to ten minutes, so the return is a shuttle ride.
