Alarmy is the app people recommend most when someone says they cannot get to work on time, and for good reason. It will not let you dismiss an alarm until you have scanned a barcode in another room, solved some arithmetic, or photographed the bathroom sink. For the specific problem of still being in bed, it works extremely well.
Ready Time is not a replacement for it. Alarmy finishes its job once you are standing up. What happens over the next fifty minutes is a different problem, and that stretch is often what decides whether you arrive on time.
Once you are awake, the morning is a chain of steps with no clock attached to any of them. You can lose track until you are already behind, and then the only option left is to rush.
Ready Time puts a start time on each of those steps by working backward from when you have to be there, then alerts you at every one. The shower, the bag, the drive, the walk in from the lot: each gets a time and each gets a nudge.
Someone in a thread about getting to work on time put it clearly. They swore by Alarmy for getting out of bed, and said that staying on top of the morning tasks afterward, so they actually left the house on time, was the part they still could not do.
| Ready Time | Alarmy | |
|---|---|---|
| The job it does | Gets you out the door on time | Gets you out of bed |
| How it works | Backward from your deadline to a start time for every step | Alarms you dismiss by completing a mission |
| After you are awake | An alert at the start of each step | Not what it is for |
| Missions to dismiss | None | Math, memory games, shaking, photos, barcodes |
| Sleep tracking | None | Sleep and snore tracking, bedtime reminders |
| Pricing model | Free; one-time unlock. No subscription | Free tier; subscription for the rest |
| Platforms | iPhone & iPad | iPhone, iPad, Android |
The honest recommendation is often both. Use Alarmy for the alarm, and Ready Time for the fifty minutes after it. They barely overlap. Each one helps with a different part of the morning.
Anyone who has trouble waking up. Nothing in Ready Time will drag you out of bed, and it does not try to. Keep the alarm.
Add a plan if you are already awake on time and still leaving late. That gap is often thirty minutes of steps with no clock on any of them, and a louder alarm cannot fix that part.
