From Portland it is I 5 the whole way, then I 105, and the last mile runs along Martin Luther King Junior Boulevard into Leo Harris Parkway, which is effectively the only road into the complex and the reason the university publishes its own postgame traffic maps. The other way in is on foot.
The stadium sits across the Willamette from campus and the footbridge carries a good part of the crowd, a walk of about a quarter of a mile from the north edge of it. The Autzen Express runs from park and ride lots at Valley River Center, the Lane Events Centre and two stops in Springfield, cheaper bought ahead, starting three hours out, but it only comes back at half time and for an hour after the whistle.
Every space in the Autzen lots is reserved and tied to donor standing, so the walk up answer is the Science Factory lot next door, the Masonic lodge across the road, or the city streets on the far side of the river. The lots open six hours before kickoff and never before seven in the morning. A bicycle is a real option here rather than a gesture: there is a guarded pen between the Science Factory and the footbridge, five dollars, open from three hours out.
Clear-bag policy at most college stadiums, and a few ban bags outright, clear ones included. Getting it wrong usually means walking back to the car and re-entering the line.

The gates open three hours before kickoff and the seating bowl does not open until 90 minutes out, so arriving very early buys you the concourse rather than your seat, and the east gate keeps the later hour as well. There is no re entry once you have stepped out, and every ticket is mobile.

Work backward from kickoff: minutes in your seat beforehand, walk to your section, gate screening, walk from the lot, parking, then the drive (120 minutes in the default plan). That puts leave-by at 9:28 AM for a 12:30 PM kickoff. Change the kickoff time and every row moves.
It depends on the TV window, which is usually announced six to twelve days before the game. A short tailgate adds about an hour and a half; a full one closer to three. For a 12:30 PM kickoff that already means leaving well before lunch. Watch packing up and the walk to the gate. Those get squeezed when the lot is having a good time.
Assume a clear bag or no bag. Check the stadium's own page for current sizes. The timing risk is being turned around at the gate and walking back to the car: the walk twice and a second trip through the queue.
