NHL game night at Delta Center, home of the Utah Mammoth. For a concert here, start from the concert night plan instead: a support act sets the deadline rather than the anthem.

Travel time to Delta Center

The 25-minute drive is a typical run from Salt Lake City without game-day traffic (the optimistic number). In the app, set Delta Center as the destination and Apple Maps fills in the time from where you’re leaving.

Then add for game day: thousands aiming at the same exit and lots (real drive to Delta Center). Change the row and every step before it moves.

Puck drop is later than you think

The time on your ticket is when the puck drops. The teams warm up well before that and the anthem and the opening ceremony run right up to it. Aim for ten to fifteen minutes earlier if you want to be in your seat for any of it.

Screening at the doors usually decides it. Every NHL arena runs walk-through detectors, and the queue is the gap between arriving and being inside. People who miss the start rarely misjudge the drive; they misjudge the lot walk and the line.

Puck drop times at Delta Center

Start times here are the team's own. The NHL sells no national window, so a game goes on when the building and the market suit and there is nothing to convert from Eastern. These are the slots this team plays most often.

These are Delta Center’s own times. The team publishes start times with the schedule in the summer and the same opponent can be a one o’clock one week and a seven o’clock the next, so take the time on your ticket over the one you remember.

Holiday games, a nationally televised night and the playoffs run their own times, and a handful each season start half an hour or an hour either side of the usual slot. Type those in on the puck drop row.

Getting to Delta Center

TRAX is the easy way in. The Blue and Green lines both stop at Arena station on South Temple, along the arena’s north side. Downtown is a free fare zone, so a ride that starts and ends inside it costs nothing. From farther out you pay the normal fare, because a Mammoth ticket does not count as a UTA ticket.

FrontRunner riders change to TRAX at Salt Lake Central for the Blue Line or North Temple for the Green Line. FrontRunner does not run on Sundays, so a Sunday game from Davis or Utah County means driving or a longer TRAX ride. A weeknight puck drop puts you on I-15 at the end of the evening commute.

The arena points you at the garages and lots within a couple of blocks: Park Place on South Temple at the northeast corner, the Triad Center, The Gateway and City Creek. Most of them no longer take cash, and Park Place sells game passes ahead through ParkWhiz. Lyft is the arena’s rideshare partner, and its pick-up zone is on 300 West at the southeast corner of the building.

Doors, the queue, and what you can carry in

About 90 minutes before puck drop

Doors open at Delta Center

That is the earliest you can get in. Check the Utah Mammoth know-before-you-go guide for your game.

Delta Center bans bags outright, purses included, apart from medical bags, diaper bags and small clutches. Getting it wrong usually means walking back to the car and re-entering the line. Check the arena's page for current sizes rather than a size you remember.

Doors open 90 minutes before puck drop, which the arena states for Mammoth and Jazz games alike. America First Credit Union members get in half an hour before general doors by showing their debit card. Screening uses Evolv walk-through sensors that let you keep walking at a normal pace. Bags are banned outright, purses included.

The exceptions are medical and diaper bags up to 14 by 14 by 6 inches and clutches up to 4 by 6 by 2, and the only bag X-ray is at Door 5, the main entrance on the northeast corner, so head there if you are carrying one. No outside food or drink. The arena prohibits re-entry at Jazz games and leaves it to arena management for everything else, so plan on staying in once you are through.

Delta Center was previously called EnergySolutions Arena, Vivint Smart Home Arena and later Vivint Arena, so older directions and tickets may still use those names.

Doors, lots and bag rules change; the official site is the live source.

Common questions

How early should I get to Delta Center?

Doors open about 90 minutes before puck drop here; that is when the crowd starts arriving, not when you have to. Being through the doors about half an hour before puck drop covers screening, the walk to your section, and a stop on the concourse.

When should I leave for Delta Center?

Work backward from puck drop: minutes in your seat beforehand, walk to your section, security screening, walk from the lot, parking, then the drive (25 minutes in the default plan). That puts leave-by at 5:49 PM for a 7:00 PM puck drop. Change the puck drop time and every row moves.

What time is puck drop at Delta Center?

It is whatever the team has scheduled, and these are local times rather than a converted national window. On this arena's clock: an early-evening game at 6:00 PM, a night game at 7:00 PM, a later start at 8:00 PM. This example uses the night game window. Holiday games, nationally televised nights and playoff rounds run their own times; the puck drop row is editable for those.

How long does the security line take?

The plan allows 10 minutes for a normal walk-through queue. It runs longer in the twenty minutes before puck drop. Arriving fifteen minutes off that peak is usually enough.

What time do the doors open at Delta Center?

About 90 minutes before puck drop here. Check the Utah Mammoth know-before-you-go guide for your game.

Can I tailgate at Delta Center?

Not in the lots here. If you are meeting people somewhere else, add that as a step and everything before it moves earlier.

What can I bring in?

Plan on no bag at all. Check the arena's own page for current sizes. The timing risk is being turned around at the door and walking back to the car: the walk twice and a second trip through the queue.

Flying in? The airport pages. Taking Amtrak? The station pages. No stadium listed? The tailgate timeline is the same plan without a particular lot.
