Kahului does not publish an arrival figure, so the standard two hours is the default here, and a mainland flight has a step most airports do not: every checked bag goes through a USDA agriculture inspection at the check-in counters before the airline takes it, and carry-ons get looked at again at the checkpoint.
The checkpoint runs 5 AM to 11:30 PM and CLEAR 6 AM to 6 PM, which covers the red-eyes to the West Coast but not by much. The airport itself says to allow extra time if you are returning a rental car, which on Maui is most people.

Most visitors drive in from Kihei or Wailea (twenty-five minutes) or from Kaanapali and Lahaina (forty-five or more), on two-lane roads where one slow truck is the whole traffic story. The public lot is across the roadway from the terminal and a walk in.
Rental cars are the consolidated center half a mile away, reached by a free tram that runs every few minutes from 6 AM to 10 PM (about four minutes) or an eight-minute signed walk, so the return is a tram ride and then a walk to the counters.
