When to leave for a Sounders match at Lumen Field.

Enter the kickoff time, adjust the drive, the parking and the tailgate, and see when to leave and when to start getting ready.

The plan in Ready Time

  1. Set the deadline. That's the time you need to be ready.
  2. Add your steps and how long each one really takes.
  3. Ready Time works backward and gives every step a start time.

MLS matchday at Lumen Field, home of Seattle Sounders FC. For a concert here, start from the concert night plan instead: doors and a support act, not gates and kickoff.

Every row is editable. Tap the kickoff or any duration and the plan recomputes backward. The first travel row is your leave-by time.

Travel time to Lumen Field

The 20-minute drive is a typical run from Seattle without game-day traffic (the optimistic number). In the app, set Lumen Field as the destination and Apple Maps fills in the time from where you’re leaving.

Then add for game day: thousands aiming at the same exit and lots (real drive to Lumen Field). Change the row and every step before it moves.

Kickoff is later than you think

The time on your ticket is when the ball is kicked. The teams walk out and the anthem plays before that, and the listed time is usually a few minutes ahead of the ball actually moving. Working back from the time on the ticket leaves those few minutes in hand. Aim for ten to fifteen minutes earlier if you want to be in your seat for any of it.

Gate screening usually decides it. Every MLS stadium runs walk-through detectors, and the queue is the gap between arriving and being inside. People who miss the start rarely misjudge the drive; they misjudge the lot walk and the line.

Here is the same day drawn to scale. A maps app can number the drive. The rest is the walk in, the gate queue, and finding your seat. Joining the march is the version worth looking at.

Kickoff windows at Lumen Field

Kickoff times here are the club's own. Apple TV carries every match, so there is no national window to slot into and each club picks its own local start. These are the ones this venue usually plays.

These are Lumen Field’s own times. The club publishes the kickoff with the fixture and moves it around across a season, so take the time on your ticket over the one you remember.

Midweek league matches, cup ties and the playoffs run their own times, and a few are moved for heat or for broadcast. Type those in on the kickoff row.

Getting to Lumen Field

Link light rail stops at Stadium station beside the building, and Sounder adds service for some matches. Driving means I-5 or I-90 and a parking hunt in a district that prices for it.

SODO, next to the baseball park, and served by rail well enough that a large share of the crowd never parks. Kickoff moves around more here than at most clubs: the 2026 home slate runs from a 1:30 in the afternoon to a 7:30 at night, so check the time on your own ticket rather than the one you remember.

Gates, the queue, and what you can carry in

About an hour before kickoff

Gates open at Lumen Field

That is when you can get in, not when you have to. The official Sounders stadium guide has the real time, which moves for a night game or a midweek fixture.

Clear-bag policy at every MLS stadium. Getting it wrong usually means walking back to the car and re-entering the line. Check the stadium's page for current sizes rather than a size you remember.

Gates open an hour before kickoff here, half what the building gives an NFL crowd, and the march arrives at roughly the same moment. Clear bag policy. Tailgating is not permitted on Lumen Field property, so the pre-match hour happens in Pioneer Square rather than a lot.

Lumen Field was previously called Seahawks Stadium, Qwest Field and later CenturyLink Field, so older directions and tickets may still use that name.

The march leaves without you

an hour before kickoff

The march steps off from Occidental Park in Pioneer Square

Gates have a window. A march has a departure, and it goes whether you are there or not. Join it and you work back from the step-off rather than the gate, which means leaving earlier and standing at the muster point with time in hand.

Occidental Park is three blocks north of the ground and the march heads south down Occidental Avenue. It has run since 2005 and it is large, so the last stretch is slow by design. Gates open at the same moment the march leaves, so you want to be in the park early rather than at the turnstile on the dot.

Common questions

How early should I get to Lumen Field?

Gates open about an hour before kickoff here; that is when the crowd starts arriving, not when you have to. Without a march, being through a gate about half an hour before kickoff covers screening, the walk to your section, and a stop on the concourse.

When should I leave for Lumen Field?

Work backward from kickoff: minutes in your seat beforehand, walk to your section, gate screening, walk from the lot, parking, then the drive (20 minutes in the default plan). That puts leave-by at 4:38 PM for a 6:00 PM kickoff. Change the kickoff time and every row moves.

What time is kickoff at Lumen Field?

It is whatever the club has scheduled, and these are local times rather than a converted national window. On this stadium's clock: an afternoon match kicks off at 1:30 PM, an early-evening match at 6:00 PM, a night match at 7:30 PM. This example uses the early evening window. Midweek matches, cup ties and playoff rounds run their own times; the kickoff row is editable for those.

How long does the security line take?

The plan allows 12 minutes for a normal walk-through queue. It runs longer in the twenty minutes before kickoff. Arriving fifteen minutes off that peak is usually enough.

What time do the gates open at Lumen Field?

About an hour before kickoff here, rather than the two hours that is the common practice at an NFL game. It moves for a midweek match, cup tie or playoff round. The official Sounders stadium guide publishes the real time for your game.

What time does the supporters’ march to Lumen Field leave?

It steps off from Occidental Park in Pioneer Square about an hour before kickoff, so for a 6:00 PM kickoff that is 5:00 PM. Join it and you need to be at the muster point ahead of it, rather than at the gate on time.

What can I bring in?

Assume a clear bag or no bag. Check the stadium's own page for current sizes. The timing risk is being turned around at the gate and walking back to the car: the walk twice and a second trip through the queue.

Flying in? The airport pages. Taking Amtrak? The station pages. No stadium listed? The tailgate timeline is the same plan without a particular lot.
